Visiting the Area

Although you will probably be able to squeeze a visit into Wine Country (the shop) in one day, Santa Barbara Wine Country (the area) is quite a large wine growing region, full of beautiful vistas, interesting people, over a hundred wineries and interesting and unique shops, art galleries and restaurants. Each area is just a little bit different, although all have that somewhat casual and relaxing atmosphere. Spend a few days!

The city of Santa Barbara is sometimes referred to as the American Riviera. Beautiful beaches, majestic mountains and colorful culture make Santa Barbara an interesting destination. Great shopping, dining and sightseeing and many attractions usually found only in much larger cities.

Over here in the Santa Ynez Valley, we have quite a bit of diversity in our little towns. Santa Ynez has an “old western” feel, with a cowboy saloon, museum that recalls the Stagecoach days and even horseshoes in the sidewalk. The Danish-inspired city of Solvang features European style shops, cafés, antique stores and (in the summer) a farmers market and outdoor theatre. Here in Los Olivos, you’ll find quite a few art galleries, and some of our quite famous restaurants.

Heading west through the Santa Rita Hills you’ll come to Lompoc, city of “murals and flowers” and Vandenberg Air Force base. Perhaps there will be a rocket launch while you’re here! Further north, the hamlet of Los Alamos has quite a western feel with a historic hotel and train depot. Furthest to the north in wine country is Santa Maria, the eipicenter of the Santa Maria Valley appellation, fresh produce stands and the famous Santa Maria style bbq.
