“Official Tasting Room”

Here in California’s Central Coast there are some very talented winemakers that are too small to have their own tasting rooms – they’re usually one-person operations, and after all – they need to be in the cellar making the wine! We are very pleased that the following have chosen Wine Country as their “unofficially official” tasting room:

And although we can’t have their full line of wines open every day, we do try to have one or two available to taste and a good sampling available for purchase. Plus, the winemakers themselves will often pop in, and we will often schedule tastings where they are here pouring their latest releases.

Flying Goat Cellars

It's all about Pinot! Mostly Pinot Noir, a little bit of Pinot Gris and even a sparkling, bubbly Rosé de Noir. It’s finicky, unpredictable, sometimes quarrelsome – but so delicious, intriguing and complex when coaxed into becoming wine.

Great Oaks Ranch

The Great Oaks Ranch and Vineyard grows Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes. The varietals and their clones were carefully chosen and yield grapes which are now in high demand by several wineries in the area. Every year, a few tons of their best Sauvignon Blanc, their favorite Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and their ripest Syrah are reserved to be made into Great Oaks Ranch and Vineyard wines.

Qupé

A modern Stone Age winery, Qupé is dedicated to producing handcrafted Rhône varietals and Chardonnay from California’s Central Coast. We employ traditional winemaking techniques to make wines that are true to type and speak of their vineyard sources. Our goal is to make wines with impeccable balance that can be enjoyed in their youth, yet because of the good acidity from cool vineyard sites can also benefit from ageing.

Silver

Benjamin sums up his winemaking philosophy: “My focus is to enhance the multidimensional character of each varietal—to reflect the personality of the vineyard and the grape in perfect harmony in each of my wines! That’s what makes winemaking exciting!”
